I choosed this project because I like the waythe land and structure combines with one another, also it doesn't disturb anybody, The major element this project has is that as you approach the entrance it makes you feel welcome.
Uppingham School structural: again, this is undefined. there are major spans in sports facilities and in this case the roof trusses are integral to the form and admission of natural light. probably should develop a graphic to indicate the large span/small span organization of these projects as this structural composition is intrinsic to the typology. circulation: it seems as though there are two levels to the building; the lower level handling the bigger flow. might be worth a look. this analysis in Clark and Pause is "circulation to use," and the sports facilities may have different routes for viewers, athletes and administrators. hierarchy: this seems pretty straightforward organization: natural light:looks right; are you missing a skylight between the admin and the gym? symmetry: certainly there is local symmetry in each gym, but symmetry nad balance can be analyzed together and i would propose there is a line of Symmetry/balance that could be drawn east-west just north of the large gym. there is an obvious compositional balance here of relative volume as well as the geometries: a rectangular shape pared with a rhomboid shape on either side balance: see above parti: the parti, it strikes me, is an L configuration of the rectangular gyms, intertwined with the smaller courts, support spaces and entry volumes in the rhomboid plan shapes. geometry: again, its worth noting the triangular support spaces versus the rectangular athletic spaces. the pairing of these functions is intrinsic to the typology.
